How to Reach the Top With Just a Video

Not so long ago we had the concept that to let the world know who we were, what we were doing, what our future was, or if we had a certain status, we had to contact a newspaper, magazine, television, radio station, or put an advertisement on a billboard.

Today we don’t need all that to "conquer the world," show who we are, or where we are going. It's amazing how everything has changed with the Internet. The world is more united than ever. We can be in Australia and we know what, who, how, and why people are doing things in Italy. This global revolution is happening thanks to sites like Youtube.com, Vimeo.com, and Ted.com among others.

Now, let’s analyze and talk a bit about how you can become really famous in seconds if you put your mind to it. The concept of this is simple: making a video and posting it on sites such as the ones mentioned above.

Kevin Allocca, YouTube’s Trend Manager says: “In a world where over two days of video get uploaded every minute, only that which is truly unique and unexpected can stand out in the way that [viral videos] have.”

It’s interesting to observe how he wraps his young audience using humor and video examples such as Rebecca Black’s “It’s Friday” and a cat that has the body shaped like a pop tart.

He also mentions three ideas of how your video can go viral on the web or, in other words, “famous” in just a few days, which are: using intermediates (celebrities, companies known worldwide or someone important in the topic or area of the subject at matter), online communities (Facebook, Twitter, blogs), and that something unexpected happens.

It’s motivating how he used Justin Bieber as his final example. Why? The answer is simple, because he was discovered by a video that was on YouTube. Wow! It would be awesome to become famous with just a video in the blink of an eye.

As my personal example, I want to mention a Latin American singer/songwriter called Tommy Torres that after being away for two years from the entertainment world, re-invented an impressive comeback wit his new video “Dear Tommy.

"Querido Tommy" was suggested by a message from a follower who was in love and asked the artist on Twitter to help him tell a girl he loved her. - Zaira Mo.

This video had more than 370,000 views on YouTube in the first two weeks and it also came in the top songs on "Billboard" using only the new media channels. The “Follower” created a story and used the artist to transmit it.

Like Allocca stated “No one has to green-light your idea. And we all now feel some ownership in our own pop culture.”

The future of entertainment lies in this entire new media that is coming out where people are able to tell their stories through videos, receiving reviews, comments, and feedback from others in the world.

In fact, get ready for something I am working on, to tell a great story!
