Last night a friend of mine recommended a movie based on Steve
Harvey’s best-selling book “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man: What Men Really
Think About Love, Relationships, Intimacy and Commitment.” She said I would really like it, so I took
her word and I watched it.
Tim Story directed the movie with a production budget of
$12,000,000 and earned a worldwide total of $99,105, 477.
“Think Like a Man” is a romantic comedy and follows the same
pattern as the movie “He’s not that into you.”
This movie has different scenarios, or I should say
different types of men. The first one is “Happily Divorced” (Kevin Hart). He is
supposedly happy because he got out from an abusive relationship with his wife
Gail (Wendy Williams). At the end, this
manly man went crawling back to his wife; I guess he wasn’t that tired after
all. Hart is extremely hilarious; I think he did a great job playing that role.
The second one is “Mamma’s
Boy” (Terrence J), the typical guy that is always with his mom and that puts
her before any other girl. The funny thing is that he sees his high school’s
crush and invites her on a date; coincidentally she is a single mother (Regina
Hall). Talking about patterns, here we have the perfect example.
Third one is the “Non-committer” (Jerry Ferrara). This story
happens to almost every American women (Gabrielle Union) that moves in with his
college sweetheart and they spend 9 years together and she is always expecting
the big question: “Will you marry me?”
Number four in our fantastic countdown of men is the famous
“Player” (Romany Malco). All women at some point in their lives have dated a
player. But, what happens to the player
when he is the one being played? It’s very simple he falls in love. The woman
(Meagan Wood) he meets in a bar decides to play a 90-day rule on him (without
having sex); that situation is a new territory for these kind of men because
they are not use to the fact that women can say “No” to their charms.
Last but not least, the “Dreamer” (Michael Ealy) vs. the
“Strong independent Woman” (Taraji P. Henson). This guy changes his dreams
every time he can. The story here has a
twist because “the dreamer” is the perfect man that puts his lady on top of
anything else, but he doesn’t make 6 figures on his paycheck. This is a problem
for a young woman, which is the CEO of a big company.
In my personal opinion this movie has two objectives;
promote Steve Harvey’s book to increase his sales and two show women a funny
perspective of the different types of men.
The movie has received great reviews, and for my personal
one I think is funny and romantic. If you like those kinds of movies, this one
is perfect for you.
And ladies let me tell you one thing: There is no such thing
as a perfect man!
